Track One: Love Music... so i got this album a long time ago and wanted to give it some coverage, but never found the right place to put it and never got around to it... i felt bad... but hey, here's a perfect spot for it, right... hopefully i can make up for the delay... better late than never... so this one started up with a silly radio deejay messing up the name... i don't totally get why he would call them one on one though... the 1 does through things up a bit, but still... it's in the middle... anyway... this has a really nice beat to it and feels pretty fun... almost heavy like a Cross Movement beat, but with a lighthearted feel that makes it much more enjoyable... the duo is trading verses and they sound good together... the message is kinda cool too... spread love with the music... Track Two: Blast Off... this is a totally different vibe... driven by a fast keyboard or something in the background... the tempo is tweaked up a notch... but the vocals are keeping right up... this is actually the first song that the two recorded together and it really took off, which got them thinking that they should do more... and they did... and it's worth it... the cool thing about this song is the humbleness that comes through in the lyrics... many rap lyrics are all about bragging and stuff like that... this song shows a humility of letting God work through us, like we are just pots of clay with a treasure inside... Track Three: Chasing a Dream... i like the piano in this beat... and there's actually a video for this song... the song's about being judged and judging others and the effects of that judgement... talking about how tough it was to continue to chase the dream of being a hip hop artist after all the slander and judgement that he's faced... it's a pretty tight track overall... very touching and motivational... encouraging us to continue on through the hard times... persevere and all that good stuff... regardless of what's going on around you... seek after God's calling...
*** INTERMISSION (maybe it's cheating but i'm falling behind on this typing and i need to go stretch) *** Track Four: Fall In Love... so... here's a love song... i don't know what it is about hip hop and love songs... they never seem to come across very well... i mean, sure, back in the day, who didn't dig LL Cool J's "I Need Love"? but do you still listen to it today?... probably not... if you did you'd think it was pretty corny... anyway... i guess i've just come to the point where i've decided that hip hop music isn't the right format for love songs... this one, of course, has a twist... and speaks not only of a guy-girl relationship but also of the source of love which is God and building a relationship with Him... and that's a cool aspect to the song... but it's not my cup of tea overall... Track Five: Feel Free... alright... here we go... this is one of the hottest fun beats of last year... you can't not bop to this rhythm... it kind of has a doo wap or a bee bop sound to it and it's just a straight beat that allows them to just flow freely and it really works well... pretty good stuff actually... Sage kind of has the smooth sound of the two while Michael (My Call?) has a gruff, in your face, raspy delivery that reminds me of that lesser known rapper Nine... or maybe even DMX... pretty cool nonetheless... it's a great balance between the two of them... Track Six: Love Music (Radio)... so we started with this song... and we're ending with this song... this is the radio edit, which basically means that there's no deejay at the beginning and it's about ten seconds shorter... but other than that, it's pretty much the same deal... it is a good song to base the album around though as it plays nicely with the group's name and focus... it's all about unity and harmony and love... it's a good message for Christians... and it's very well accepted in the mainstream as well... after all, who doesn't like the idea of a peaceful existence... it's all good... and that's about all i have time for... it was short but sweet... thanks for walking with me... definitely check these guys out... they should be starting a new album in the near future...
The duo of George Moss and Michael Fugitt, make the independent hip hop act, Un1on. After tearing up the charts on mp3.com in it's glory days, Un1on pressed this five-song EP and began doing shows together. This has proved to strike a chord with a large audience and hopefully will encourage them to put a full length project together in the near future.
