 Some albums are downright intimidating to review. Truthless Heroes is such an amazing album artistically, that i worry about doing it an injustice even with high marks. Billed as a conceptual album, Truthless stirred up a lot of controversy in the Christian community because of it promotional website and the lack of a "tidy" ending. The album follows the self discovery process of a young man searching for fulfillment in a media-saturated world. They manage to capture a snapshot of our current cultural climate.
Truthless Heroes is a heavy rock album. Generally, this is not my speed, but i have been known to "rock out" on occassion. Fluid drumming, energetic guitars, and a synergy that allows the music to encapsulate the "journey" add up to riveting music. Project 86 have certainly honed their talents to create a near masterpiece.
Andrew Schwab has done an extraodinary job writing some of the more compelling lyrics in modern music. True to the concept as a whole, each track represents a step or a stage in the life of this fictitious young man. As you follow the songs and listen to the lyrics, the journey becomes real. You sympathize, you empathize, you realize. This is, to a great extent, a novel set to music.
A dual website promotion, a supporting tour, dual distribution, an in-depth feature available via enhanced CD, slick cover design and layout. Project 86, Tooth and Nail, and Atlantic Records did a bang-up job in the promotion and production for Truthless Heroes
Project 86 has taken a huge leap with Truthless Heroes. It is extremely refreshing to see a group grow, mature and take artistic risks. This "concept piece" is a wonderful example of art. Honest lyrics that can be grasped. Ideas that resonate with the listener.
